Discovering the World’s Most Exquisite Coffee: Best of Panama and Finca Sophia
For most coffee lovers, it’s easy to imagine a “good cup” — but in the world of specialty coffee, there exists a realm where beans are treated like fine wine. The Best of Panama (BoP) competition is one of the most prestigious coffee events in the world.
Only the finest lots earn the BoP title and are later sold through a private global auction. In 2025, a winning coffee fetched over fetched a record-breaking US$30,204/kg (≈HK$234,924), setting a new world record.
In 2025, Stone Coffee proudly secured BoP Lot GN-03 Finca Sophia La Roca Geisha Natural, a coffee that achieved an extraordinary score of 94.88 points out of 100 points.
Perched at around 2,130 meters above sea level in Panama’s misty highlands, Finca Sophia ranks among the highest coffee farms in Central America. Founded in 2008 by a team of coffee professionals including Willem Boot, Helen Russell, and David Pohl, the farm is built on a vision of sustainability and precision. Its high altitude slows cherry maturation, allowing sugars and flavor compounds to develop gradually — a key factor behind the exceptional sweetness, clarity, and complexity in its Geisha coffees.
The awarded La Roca Geisha Natural is a masterpiece — bursting with notes of Peach, Valencia Orange, Nectarine, Floral Honey, Red Tea, finishing silky and elegant. Every sip reflects the rare beauty of high-mountain Panama terroir and the artistry behind the Best of Panama legacy.
A cup not just to drink, but to remember.

LAURINA coffee, also known as Bourbon Pointu or Maragogipe Laurina, is a unique coffee varietal characterized by its low caffeine content. It is a naturally occurring mutation of the Bourbon coffee plant. Laurina coffee beans typically contain about half the caffeine of regular Arabica coffee beans, which is a significant difference, as caffeine contributes to the bitter and astringent taste in coffee.
The flavor profile of Laurina coffee is often described as smooth and mild, with floral and fruity notes. Due to its lower caffeine content, it is considered a coffee option for those who are sensitive to caffeine or those looking for a milder coffee experience. However, it's worth noting that the low caffeine content also makes Laurina coffee more susceptible to diseases and pests, which can make its cultivation more challenging. As a result, it is a relatively rare and specialty coffee varietal.
